Application process & requirements
Project requirements
The project should be of personal relevance or interest to the participant. All research is welcome within the fields of STEM. Students may choose to create parts of their apparatus, such as building a robot or developing a computer algorithm, for experimentation. This is not required but will be considered during judging. The originality, creativity and genuine applicability of results is highly encouraged and will be rewarded.
Students should be able to:
-
Propose a research question and produce a researched hypothesis
-
Design a fair and relevant experiment
-
Collect data through experimentation
-
Develop a conclusion and discuss the implications and applications
-
Evaluate the limitations of the experiment and proposes possible improvements and extensions
Final Product
Students should prepare a presentation showcasing their research process. The presentation should display the methodology and results of their research using images, videos and simulations. An extensive report is not required. Students should also be prepared to discuss their research on the day of the event.
Judging
Judging will be primarily based on three criteria: creativity and originality, the applicability of results and experiment design. A specific rubric will be provided at a later date.
Venue and Date
The current venue for the science fair is Renaissance College Hong Kong. Depending on circumstances within Hong Kong, the date of the event may be subject to change. The possibility of an online event will be considered and information will be shared if necessary.
